How To Use a Gua Sha

How To Use a Gua Sha

The calming ritual of Gua Sha blends ancient wisdom with modern skincare. It's an ancient Chinese healing technique which involves gliding over your skin with a smooth-edged tool to help improve circulation. Incorporating it into your routine can help to filter toxins away, reduce puffiness under the skin and relieve tension.

If you’ve never used one before, here’s a simple guide to get started using our Jade Gua Sha and take a moment to enjoy this calming beauty ritual.

Here is a step-by-step guide to using a Gua Sha:

1. Prepare Your Skin: Begin your ritual by applying a few drops of our Raspberry Seed Illuminating Face Oil to your face and massaging it in gently - it’ll give your Gua Sha tool the perfect slip to glide smoothly and allow your skin to absorb all the nourishing benefits. If an oil is too heavy for your skin, try our Kombucha Rest Day Serum instead.

2. Lymphatic Drainage – Begin with Your Forehead: Take your Gua Sha and place the long edge at the centre of your forehead. Glide the tool upwards towards your hairline, using light pressure. Repeat this movement a few times to help release any tension and promote circulation. This will also help with lymphatic drainage and reduce puffiness.

3. Lift Your Eyes: For the under-eye area, gently glide the Gua Sha from the inner corner of your eye out towards your temples. Use a light touch here to avoid pulling the delicate skin. Repeat this a few times to help depuff and energise your eyes and help diminish the appearance of dark circles. A must-have for those early mornings when your skin needs a little extra refreshing.

4. Contour the Cheeks and Jawline: Next, move to your cheekbone area. Starting near the nose, glide the Gua Sha out towards your ears, following the natural contour of your face. Repeat a few times. Then, move to your jawline, gliding from your chin towards your ears. This helps define the jaw and improves blood flow.

5. Relax the Neck: Place the Gua Sha at the base of your neck and gently glide it down towards your shoulders. This helps to release tension and promote circulation, leaving the neck feeling refreshed.

Incorporating this practice into your routine can help to create a much-needed moment of calm in the bustle of the day, encouraging your mind to relax while giving your skin the care it deserves. Whether you choose to begin or end your day with this soothing ritual, ideally you’ll want to spend around 15 minutes with your Gua Sha tool.

The stone is naturally cool, but for an extra refreshing experience, store your Gua Sha in the fridge before use – it adds an invigorating chill that enhances circulation and soothes your skin. Unlike single-use products, a Gua Sha can be used repeatedly, making it a sustainable tool for long-term skincare care.
